Working from home and hybrid working, where employees either do not come into the office at all or only on specific days of the week, received a massive boost during the recent pandemic. It is something that large numbers of employees desire and expect. ongoing chronic nightmare of a devastating imbalance between demands and
resources has now been exacerbated by the acute challenge of the current Junior

For over two decades, the NHS has struggled with enormous financial pressures and excessive regulatory demands reflected in obsessions with "control totals", "savings targets", and staff shortages. (The turnover rates for all staff groups, according to NHS Digital, in 2021 was 12.5% and rising.)</p><p class="" style="color:inherit;font-size:.9375em;line-height:1.618em;margin:0 0 1.25em 0;font-weight:normal;font-family:'DejaVu Sans Condensed', 'Liberation Sans', 'Nimbus Sans L', 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;letter-spacing:-.01em;">The nightmare could get worse. The strategy of "integrated care systems" and "sustainability and transformation partnerships" requiring that local care and health provision is provided by a network of NHS institutions, local authorities, voluntary and charity groups and private care providers will present complex strategic challenges. This will mean senior leaders struggle to align groups driven by different cultures and metrics. This will need a very different sort of leadership from that required within a monolithic institution and could be one where many senior leaders will find themselves unprepared. Worse than that, they may be required to implement something that simply won't work.</p><p class="" style="color:inherit;font-size:.9375em;line-height:1.618em;margin:0 0 1.25em 0;font-weight:normal;margin-bottom:0;font-family:'DejaVu Sans Condensed', 'Liberation Sans', 'Nimbus Sans L', 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;letter-spacing:-.01em;">A report from the Nuffield Trust in December 2021 found that there was very little evidence that integration policies across the UK – including pooling budgets and creating new integrated boards and committees – had dramatically improved patient experience and quality of services or supported the delivery of more care outside of hospitals. They warned that without concurrent investment in social care and broader public services, it was "very likely" further reforms would not yield the desired results.</p>
